The City of Carthage announces important upcoming dates for the 2026 General Municipal Election, scheduled for Tuesday, April 7, 2026. In accordance with the 2026 Missouri Election Calendar, several city offices will appear on the ballot.
Offices Up for Election
The following positions are eligible in the April 2026 election:
Mayor – David B. Flanigan (4-year term)
1st Ward Council Member – Derek Peterson (2-year term)
1st Ward Council Member – Vacant (1-year term)
2nd Ward Council Member – Genaro Cifuentes (2-year term)
3rd Ward Council Member – Jack Perkins (2-year term)
4th Ward Council Member – Beth Kang (2-year term)
5th Ward Council Member – Jana Schramm (2-year term)
Candidate Filing Information
Those wishing to have their name placed on the official ballot must file a declaration of candidacy in person at the City Clerk’s Office, located at Carthage City Hall.
Opening day for filing:
Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 8:00 a.m.Final day to file:
Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.
Please note: The City Clerk’s Office will be closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and any City-designated holidays during the filing period.
Filing Fee or Petition Requirement
A filing fee of $25.00 is required at the time of filing. Payment may be made by cash or credit card (standard processing fees apply).
As an alternative to the filing fee, candidates may submit a petition containing 25 signatures from registered voters residing within the ward they seek to represent.
All filing fees and petitions must be presented to the City Clerk at the time of filing.
