Know the Rules Before You Celebrate
As Independence Day approaches, the City of Carthage reminds residents to follow city ordinances regarding the use of fireworks within city limits.
Per City Ordinance Sec. 10-3, private individuals may only discharge fireworks from June 30 to July 5 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Discharging fireworks outside of these dates and times is prohibited and may result in fines.
Nothing in this section shall allow the discharge of any firework in the Municipal Park at any time. In addition, the fire chief has sole discretion to suspend Section 10-3 of the City Code in times of high fire risk or drought conditions.
Residents are also reminded that the sale of fireworks is allowed within city limits only when in accordance with state statute RSMo 320.121, and vendors must comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
“This ordinance is in place to help everyone enjoy a safe and respectful celebration,” said city officials. “We encourage all residents to be mindful of their neighbors, pets, and local safety guidelines.”
